Fr. Kiibi Calls on Leaders to Rest Gracefully Before People Grow Weary

Religious leaders have called on those in leadership positions to consider stepping aside before the people they serve grow weary of them, thereby inspiring others to take up leadership roles.

The call was made by Rev. Fr. Deogratius Kiibi Kateregga of St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish, Mpigi, during the Christmas Carols Festival held at the Wakiso District headquarters.

Fr. Kiibi’s remarks came in reference to the recent decision by Wakiso LC5 Chairperson Matia Lwanga Bwanika, who voluntarily stepped down from his position to contest for the Busiro South Parliamentary seat.

“Leaders should know when to rest, and that time is when people still appreciate them and can recognize the good they have done. This encourages others to step into leadership,” Fr. Kiibi stated.

He also commended the Wakiso District leadership for maintaining a God-fearing approach. “I thank the district workers for leading with God at the center. Do not abandon this path,” he added.

The festive event featured multiple choirs from both Catholic and Protestant communities across Wakiso District, performing carols in preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ.

The celebrations were organized by the St. Joseph the Worker Small Christian Community and attracted district staff, political leaders, religious figures from various denominations, and numerous residents.

During his sermon, Fr. Jude Ssekyanzi, the main celebrant, urged district officials to uphold integrity and transparency in their work. “District leaders must remain accountable in everything they do so that work continues smoothly even when they are away resting,” he emphasized.

Fr. Ssekyanzi also appealed to parents to pay close attention to their children during the festive season. “Let us guide our children and encourage them to participate in church activities. This helps shield them from the negative behaviors that are growing in our communities today, especially during holidays,” he added.

He further commended Lwanga Bwanika for voluntarily stepping aside to allow others to serve. “It is admirable that he chose to give room for others while continuing to serve the nation in another capacity,” he noted.

In response, Matia Lwanga Bwanika attributed the district’s consistent performance to God-centered leadership. “Leading with the fear of God has helped us perform well. For the last 15 years, Wakiso has remained one of the best-performing districts in the country,” he remarked.

The celebrations concluded with the cutting of a ceremonial cake and the lighting of Christmas trees, gestures symbolizing love, unity, and goodwill as the festive season approaches.
