Seven people were seriously injured on Friday afternoon in a road crash at Bulumagi Village, a well-known accident blackspot along the Kampala–Jinja highway in Buikwe District.
The crash, which occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on December 5, 2025, involved a Fuso Fighter truck (UBG 263K) driven by Joseph Ntabazi, 55, of Jinja City, and a Toyota Hiace taxi (UBS 644E) whose driver fled the scene and remains unidentified.
According to Njeru Traffic Police, the Hiace was traveling from Jinja toward Kampala when its driver attempted a reckless overtaking maneuver.
After spotting an oncoming vehicle, the driver reportedly swerved abruptly to avoid a head-on collision, crashing into the Fuso truck he was overtaking. The impact caused both vehicles to overturn. The Fuso was carrying cartons of spirits at the time.
The injured victims include Andrew Bossa, an adult male passenger from Busia; Tracy Namulondo, 15, a female juvenile from Buyende District; Faziri Kasadha, 30, from Mityana; Jalia Baseke, 25, from Mayuge District; Bakesigamukama, 31, from Bugiri District; Joseph Ntabazi, 55, the Fuso driver; and his turnman, Joram Ntabazi, 20.
All victims were transported to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for treatment. The damaged vehicles were towed to Njeru Police Station for inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV).
Police noted that Bulumagi remains one of the most dangerous sections of the Kampala–Jinja highway due to its sharp bend, which has caused numerous serious and fatal accidents over time.
Ssezibwa Region Police spokesperson SP Hellen Butoto said investigations are ongoing and urged motorists to exercise extreme caution, especially when navigating known blackspots.
“Reckless overtaking continues to cost lives on this highway. We appeal to motorists to drive responsibly and observe road safety guidelines,” she said.
