Police Officer Knocked Dead in Iganga

A police officer has died in a road crash along the Iganga–Tororo highway, authorities in Busoga East have confirmed.

The deceased, Sgt James Kirinde, was attached to Makuutu Police Station in Bugweri District. According to police, the fatal accident occurred on Friday, December 5, 2025, at around 6:50 p.m. at Buseyi near SANA Hotel.

Preliminary findings indicate that a motor vehicle, registration number UAF 827H Isuzu Forward, and a motorcycle, registration UFR 989S Bajaj Boxer, were traveling in the same direction towards Nakalama when the truck allegedly rammed into the motorcycle from behind.

Sgt Kirinde, who was the passenger on the motorcycle died instantly.

Police say the officer was returning to Bugweri after escorting examination materials to Iganga Police Station when he met his death.

The driver of the Isuzu truck reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash, and efforts to trace him are underway.

Traffic officers from Iganga Central Police Station responded to the scene, documented evidence, and secured the wreckages.

Sgt Kirinde’s body was taken to Nakavule Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

The motorcycle and the motor vehicle involved in the crash have been towed to Iganga Police Station as investigations continue.

Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha expressed condolences to the family, colleagues, and friends of the fallen officer, noting that a full report will be issued upon completion of inquiries.
