Former Katikkiro of Buganda, Eng. JB Walusimbi, has issued a stern warning to contractors performing substandard road construction work, saying their negligence undermines infrastructure development and inconveniences communities.
Walusimbi made the remarks in Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality during the signing of memoranda of understanding with contractors awarded Lot 4 and Lot 5 road construction projects. The ceremony was officiated by the Mayor of Makindye Ssabagabo, Eng. Godfrey Ssemwanga Kabuzi.
The former Katikkiro expressed concern over a growing trend of contractors abandoning projects or delivering poor-quality work, resulting in incomplete roads and wasted public resources.
He urged companies contracted under the new road works to uphold professional standards, observe technical specifications, and ensure durability.
“Communities deserve roads that meet quality standards. Any contractor who fails to deliver will not only inconvenience the public but also risk penalties and contract termination,” Walusimbi cautioned.
At the same event, Monica Edemachu Ejua, Under Secretary in the Office of the President—Ministry of Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, called on local leaders to place community welfare at the centre of their work.
She emphasized that proper oversight, accountability, and commitment to service delivery are essential for improving infrastructure and boosting public confidence.
Mayor Ssemwanga echoed the call for quality, reminding contractors that the municipality expects timely completion of projects and adherence to agreed-upon engineering standards.
The signing of the MoUs marks the beginning of a new phase of road rehabilitation in Makindye Ssabagabo, with leaders pledging closer supervision to prevent shoddy work and ensure residents receive long-lasting, well-constructed roads.
