Onyango's star shines brighter; Nominated in champions league team of the year
Uganda Cranes captain Dennis Onyango's star has continued to shine brighter, not only for the national team but also for his club on the continental level.
Barely a week after being nominated for the CAF African Player of year and the Africa-based player of the year awards, the Mamelodi Sundowns shot stopper has been selected the best performing players in the CAF champions league 2017 that ended on Saturday.

During the second leg final game on Saturday, Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca defeated Egyptian giants Al Ahly by a goal to nil to win this year's champions league and ending the twenty-five year wait without lifting the trophy the had last won in 1992.
However, Uganda's representative cum national team skipper Onyango was named in the best eleven despite his team not performing well in Africa's biggest club competition.
Onyango's Mamelodi Sundowns were eliminated from the competition by eventual champions Wydad Casablanca at the quarter finals in September, thanks to a penalty shootout that separated the two teams.
Percy Tau was another player from Masandawana along side Onyango to be named in the best team that was mostly dominated by players from the champions and Al Ahly who were the runners up.
Onyango was early this week nominated for both the overall African player of the year and Africa-based player of the year awards.
The former SC Villa goalkeeper will however faced tough competition from 60 other players both at the continent in Europe, among whom are; Egypt and Liverpool's Muhammad Salah, Victor Moses(Nigeria and Chelsea),Pierre Emerick Aubameyang(Gabon and Dortmund),Eric Bailly(Ivory Coast and Manchester United).
Onyango was instrumental in guiding Uganda to the African Nations Cup finals in Gabon in January following a 39 year wait.
