The Attorney General, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, has cautioned National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters who continue to campaign for candidates without official party flags, noting that the practice violates party regulations and undermines internal cohesion.

Speaking during the launch of the “Buganda for Museveni” campaign initiative,in Namungo subcounty in Mityana south consituancy, Kiwanuka warned that indiscipline within the party could weaken the NRM’s chances in the 2026 elections if not addressed urgently.

He noted that some party members have developed a habit of rallying behind independents and individuals who defied the party’s internal processes, a move he says is unacceptable.

“When you support a candidate who does not hold the party flag, you are breaking the rules of the NRM,” Kiwanuka stressed. “We must respect our structures if we are to remain strong as a party.”

Kiwanuka urged NRM members across Buganda to unite, mobilise, and consistently promote the party’s officially endorsed candidates, especially as the country heads into a heated election season.

“Let us work together at every stage so that we secure victory in 2026,” he added. “Unity and discipline are the only way we can maintain the trust of voters in Buganda and the rest of the country.”

The Buganda for Museveni campaign was launched to reorganise party mobilisation efforts in the region, address previous setbacks, and rebuild support for President Museveni and NRM candidates.

Party leaders say the drive is aimed at correcting coordination gaps that have affected performance in Buganda in recent elections.
