As President Museveni prepares to campaign in Sheema and Bushenyi districts ahead of his reelection bid, leaders in Sheema have presented him with a memorandum of pressing local issues seeking urgent redress.
Key demands include tarmacking the Bwizibwera–Kabwohe–Kitagata–Rukungiri road, renovating and upgrading Kitagata Hospital into a regional referral facility, establishing a district youth skilling center, and chartering Ankore Western University.
Leaders also highlighted the need for improved access to water and electricity, as well as measures to tackle youth unemployment.
In Kabwohe town, preparations for Museveni’s visit are underway, with streets decorated in NRM yellow and tents being erected at Kabwohe Stadium, the venue for his rally. Addressing journalists, Dickson Kateshumbwa, MP for Sheema Municipality, said:
“We are very well prepared for our party chairman, President Museveni. We have organized everything to ensure that none of the NRM supporters attending tomorrow’s rally will go back hungry.”
Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, NRM flag bearer for Sheema South, acknowledged the president’s contributions to the district but emphasized the urgent need to upgrade Kitagata Hospital, established in the 1960s, into a regional referral center.
The president’s campaigns come amid reports of tensions among some NRM flag bearers, who are allegedly attempting to undermine their colleagues’ bids in favor of independent candidates. Kateshumbwa noted that the president is already aware of such interference and is expected to address it.
District leaders also highlighted challenges linked to politics of identity and religion, which have fostered divisions within communities.
President Museveni is scheduled to address his first rally at Kabwohe Stadium at midday before proceeding to Bushenyi district, where he will speak to supporters at Kizinda Playground in Igara West constituency.
