Moroto – Hundreds of UPDF soldiers from the Third Division in Moroto participated in a more than 30-kilometre foot march as part of ongoing combat readiness and field preparedness drills.
The march, which began at the Third Division headquarters around 6 a.m., took troops through Moroto Town and onward to Tapac Sub-county.
Major Moses Amuya, the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Officer for the Third Division, said the exercise was initiated in September following directives from UPDF leadership to enhance troop resilience and preparedness across the region.
He emphasized that similar endurance drills are being carried out across all brigades under the Third Division.
“The soldiers are physically fit, morale is high, and cohesion among the troops is excellent,” Major Amuya noted, highlighting the exercise’s contribution to operational effectiveness, particularly in Karamoja’s challenging terrain.
The UPDF explained that these drills are linked to ongoing efforts to curb the circulation of illegal firearms in the region and to strengthen collaboration with local communities in restoring peace and stability.
The Third Division leadership pledged to maintain regular readiness exercises as part of wider security operations, underlining the UPDF’s commitment to safeguarding Karamoja and ensuring the operational readiness of its forces.
