The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, held a high-level meeting on Friday with the Ambassador of Belgium to Uganda, Hugues Chantry, at the Special Forces Command (SFC) Headquarters in Entebbe.
The discussions focused on reinforcing the longstanding diplomatic and defence partnership between Uganda and Belgium, building on bilateral talks initiated in September 2024.
General Muhoozi highlighted the importance of sustaining and expanding the strong relations between the two nations, emphasizing that continued collaboration is vital for addressing shared security concerns and enhancing regional stability.
During the engagement, the CDF briefed the Belgian delegation on key regional security operations, including Uganda’s participation in the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), the joint Uganda–DRC Operation Shujaa targeting negative armed elements in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, and ongoing peacebuilding support in South Sudan.
He stressed the transnational nature of current security threats and called for deeper cooperation with Belgium to strengthen collective responses.
Ambassador Chantry, accompanied by Belgium’s Defence Advisor to Uganda, Col Michel Recour, and other senior officials, commended the enduring partnership and reiterated Belgium’s commitment to supporting Uganda in areas of mutual defence and diplomatic interest.
Both parties concluded the meeting by reaffirming their dedication to promoting peace, security, and stability in the region and expressed readiness to explore additional avenues for collaboration, including enhanced training, capacity-building, and joint strategic initiatives.
