The delegation also invited the Mufti to officiate as Chief Guest at their upcoming three-day ijitma, a spiritual gathering scheduled to take place at Masjid Atiq in Mukono Town Council from December 4 to 7, 2025.

The leadership of Jamaat Tabligh has publicly reaffirmed its allegiance to the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), stressing that the council remains the central authority for all Sunni Muslims in the country.

A delegation of senior clerics from Makki Masjid in Bweya, Kajjansi, including Sheikh Muzamir Mataya, the Amir, Sheikh Abdul Nasir Makumbi, and Sheikh Shaban Mbogo, met His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, during the UMSC weekly management committee session.

The clerics emphasised that their mosque remains aligned with the council’s leadership.

Sheikh Mbogo said their position was rooted in the guidance of their late Amir. “Your Eminence, the late Sheikh Omar Abdallah Mazinga, our former Amir prior to his death brought us together and made a verbal will, advising us never to forsake the UMSC as the umbrella body of all Ugandan Muslims,” he stated.

His remarks followed the Mufti’s recent decision restricting Sheikh Swaleh Mubiru from conducting religious teachings deemed to have caused confusion within the community.

The delegation also invited the Mufti to officiate as Chief Guest at their upcoming three-day ijitma, a spiritual gathering scheduled to take place at Masjid Atiq in Mukono Town Council from December 4 to 7, 2025.

In his response, Mufti Mubaje reaffirmed the council’s inclusive mandate.

“UMSC belongs to all Muslims that subscribe to the Sunni branch of Islam. So you also have a share here like the rest of other Muslims,” he said.

He explained that the temporary restriction on Sheikh Swaleh Mubiru was aimed at preventing divisive teachings and safeguarding Islamic principles grounded in the Quran, Hadiths, and the teachings of early Islamic scholars.
