Parents Urged to Prioritise Quality Education in School Selection

Parents have been advised to be careful when choosing schools for their children and to first analyze what their children are likely to learn from those schools.

The Minister for Lukiiko, Information, Cabinet Affairs, Protocol and the Official Kingdom Spokesperson, Noah Kiyimba, delivered this message while officiating at an event held at Kids’ Kingdom Kindergarten in Namugongo.

“Parents, it is very important to examine the schools you take your children to and avoid those whose main goal is to seek money instead of focusing on child development,” Kiyimba said.

Kiyimba explained that a strong foundation greatly determines the future of any child, and for that reason, a parent must carefully choose the school where their child will acquire that foundation. He noted that many people who later struggle in life are affected by the kind of upbringing and schooling environment they started with.

Kiyimba also advised parents to pay attention to their children’s behavior during this holiday, especially how they use technology such as mobile phones, televisions, and other smart devices. He warned that because children spend too much time on phones, many develop eye problems while others pick up bad habits from what they watch without supervision. He therefore instructed parents to closely monitor their children.

Kiyimba thanked the founders of Kids’ Kingdom Kindergarten and Kingdom Minister in Charge of Research, Sylvia Mazzi and her husband Richard Kakonge. He acknowledged that setting up a children’s school is vital in preparing a strong future generation and also appreciated the teachers for their dedication in nurturing the young learners.

In her remarks, Mazzi, also encouraged parents not to judge schools by their buildings alone, but by the school’s ability to holistically prepare a child and offer what the child needs at the right time.

“A young child needs a school that gives them time to discover their abilities and weaknesses, so they can be supported to gain confidence and self-belief,” Mazzi said.

Mazzi explained that at Kids’ Kingdom Kindergarten, they decided to focus only on early childhood education and do not offer Primary level. They teach children in Kindergarten and care for those who are not yet of school-going age (Daycare).

“Over the 12 years of Kid’s Kingdom Kindergarten Namugongo, we have focused on nurturing children, caring for them so they grow happily without distress. We build their character, help them learn practical skills, and guide them to know and respect God,” she said.

The event was also attended by Prof. Paul Edward Tebakyagenda Mugambi, the first professor of mathematics in East and Central Africa and founder of the Uganda Mathematics Society, along with many other dignitaries and parents who came to support and celebrate their children’s talents.

Certificates were awarded to children who successfully completed the Kindergarten level and are ready to join Primary school.
