Security agencies in Uganda’s Kigezi sub-region have announced comprehensive measures ahead of President Yoweri Museveni’s three-day campaign tour, beginning Monday, November 24.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag bearer is scheduled to hold rallies across Kisoro, Rubanda, Rukiga, Kabale, Kanungu, and Rukungiri districts.
Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate stated that preparations are in full swing to ensure public order and the safety of all participants.
“The presidential candidate of the NRM party, who also doubles as the President of Uganda, is expected in the Kigezi region starting Monday through Wednesday as scheduled by the Electoral Commission. He is the fountain of honour and must be accorded full respect. Security is fully guaranteed for all campaign rallies,” Maate said.
He urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid carrying sharp objects or oversized bags, and cooperate with security teams.
Ahead of the tour, State Minister for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives David Bahati, also MP for Ndorwa West, led youth and NRM supporters in a cleanup and decoration exercise at Katuna border and Kabale town, displaying campaign posters and preparing rally venues.
Local government staff in Rubanda and Kabale districts have been directed by their Chief Administrative Officers to attend the rallies in person.
Rubanda CAO Samuel Ahabwe, in a letter dated November 20, emphasized, “You are invited to attend the President’s campaign rally in person without fail and keep time to listen to the historical mission of transforming Uganda.” Kabale CAO Ronald Mutegeki issued a similar directive on November 19.
Authorities continue to appeal for public cooperation to ensure the campaign events proceed peacefully, orderly, and successfully.
