The video, first posted on TikTok on Friday, shows a man—presumed to be the driver—trapped inside a truck carrying NRM posters.
Wearing a National Resistance Movement T-shirt, he is seen wiping sweat and tears while residents and first responders allegedly mock him instead of offering immediate help.
A narrator, identified as part of the first response team, explains that the driver’s legs were stuck and urges him to remove his NRM shirt so that people could assist him.
In the background, residents are heard refusing to intervene, citing their grievances against the ruling party.
“The man’s legs are stuck in the car, the car is ferrying posters belonging to NRM as you can see, they have refused to help him,” the narrator says.
Some netizens have condemned the act as a disturbing sign of political polarization, suggesting that prolonged governance by the ruling party has eroded social cohesion and empathy among citizens.
Eventually, a few responders assisted the driver out of the wreckage, but the verbal assaults continued.
As of this publication, the National Resistance Movement had not issued a statement on the incident, and the Uganda Police traffic unit has yet to provide details regarding the cause of the accident or information about the driver.
