Muntu Urges Leadership Change, Pledges to Fight Corruption

The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential candidate, Maj. Gen (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu, has emphasized that Uganda’s prosperity is contingent on a change in leadership, asserting that the country cannot flourish under President Museveni’s prolonged rule.

Speaking to supporters in Kyere Town Council, Serere District, on Wednesday, Muntu described it as unacceptable for a president to remain in power for over 40 years while government hospitals continue to lack essential drugs and citizens face high costs for basic services.

“Are you ready to take out the source of the problem? We want to convince you to trust us with your votes. As ANT, we detest corruption; we have the capacity and skills to eliminate it,” Muntu said, appealing to the electorate to back ANT’s vision for a corruption-free Uganda.

Muntu attributed the country’s challenges to poor leadership, noting that some politicians prioritize personal advancement over the welfare of the people, often avoiding critical issues out of fear of government reprisal. He contrasted them with leaders who embrace risk and fight for the public good.

“The nature of those leaders is that they don't fear risks. They will fight even though the government fights back. If there are no leaders to fight for the people, there are bound to be serious problems,” Muntu said, urging the residents of Kyere to support ANT’s parliamentary candidate Alice Alaso.

Highlighting economic opportunities, Muntu mentioned ongoing mineral exploration in the Kyoga belt, which, although not yet fully assessed, could potentially yield high-value minerals.

On infrastructure development, he criticized widespread corruption, estimating that over Shs 12.6 trillion (USD 3 billion) lost to corruption annually could instead fund the construction of 30 new roads, each 100 kilometres long.

Muntu concluded by reaffirming ANT’s commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring that Uganda’s natural resources and public funds are used for the benefit of the people.
