The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao, has urged both leaders and citizens to safeguard Uganda’s constitutional order, describing it as the framework that should guide all national decisions and governance.
Addressing participants at the 2025 Philosophy Day Conference at Makerere University, Mao emphasized that respect for constitutional principles is key to strengthening democracy, promoting accountability, and ensuring the integrity of political and legal processes.
“Uganda can only achieve stable and peaceful leadership transitions if leaders and institutions consistently adhere to the provisions outlined in our Constitution,” Mao said.
The annual conference, held under the theme “Gains, Pitfalls, and Prospects,” brought together scholars, policymakers, and students to reflect on the country’s progress in constitutionalism and the challenges that remain.
Mao concluded by urging citizens to remain vigilant in defending constitutional values and to actively support governance practices rooted in the nation’s legal framework.
