Buganda Education Minister Celebrates 10 Years of Smiling Star Junior School – Buloba

The Minister for Education in the Kingdom of Buganda, Cotilda Nakate Kikomeko, joined the Smiling Star Junior School – Buloba community to mark the institution’s 10-year anniversary. The school was founded by Omuziira (Warrior) of the 2005 class, Kaye John Ddamba, who also serves as its director.

In her remarks, Minister Nakate expressed heartfelt appreciation to the school founder for his unwavering commitment to education. She emphasized that education is a powerful tool for shaping responsible citizens who can meaningfully contribute to the country’s future.

“Anyone who invests in education is building the nation,” she said.

Nakate commended the school for its holistic approach to learning, highlighting that true education extends beyond classroom instruction. She praised the institution for nurturing children’s natural talents—whether in arts, sports, culture, or other areas—stressing that discovering and developing a learner’s potential is a critical responsibility of every school.

She also encouraged the school administration to continue prioritizing the Luganda language, noting that mastering it strengthens cultural heritage and identity. Drawing from her own experience, Nakate emphasized the personal benefits of learning Luganda and urged that more children be given the opportunity to appreciate its significance.

In his address, Kaye John Ddamba expressed profound gratitude to Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II for the support extended through CBS Radio’s Entanda Ya Buganda program, which played a crucial role in establishing the school. He revealed that Smiling Star Junior School, which began in 2015 with only 30 pupils and 2 acres of land, has now grown to 1,046 learners on 4 acres—reflecting remarkable progress in just a decade.

Ddamba reaffirmed the school’s dedication to raising well-rounded learners equipped with diverse skills, a mission strengthened by partnerships with various stakeholders.
