Nansana Municipality Member of Parliament Aspirant under the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) ticket, Harold Kaija, highlighted the pressing need for improved service delivery in Nansana Municipality and called for its elevation to city status.
Speaking during Nansana Municipality Parliamentary debate hosted by NBS Television on Sunday, Kaija emphasised that residents of Nansana contribute significantly to Uganda’s tax base, yet the municipality continues to face challenges in accessing essential services.
“As Nansana, we pay a lot in taxes that end up supporting other areas. We don’t donate those taxes, we pay them so that the funds can return to us in the form of proper service delivery,” Kaija said.
He further noted that approximately 70% of Uganda’s tax revenue comes from Kampala and Wakiso, yet the level of service delivery in Nansana remains unsatisfactory. Kaija argued that the municipality’s large population justifies its elevation to city status.
“There is no city in Uganda with a larger population than Nansana municipality, apart from Kampala. Nansana deserves city status, and this will lead to improved service delivery,” he said.
Kaija also drew attention to the challenges residents face in accessing healthcare. “In Uganda, you get sick twice. First, you fall ill, and then when they try to take you to a good hospital, you refuse because you can’t afford it,” he said, highlighting the urgent need for improved health services in the municipality.
The PFF candidate concluded by urging stakeholders and the central government to prioritize Nansana’s development, ensuring that the municipality’s contributions to the national economy are matched by adequate service provision for its residents.
Kaija is set to face off with former NBS Amasengejje Anchor Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa of the National Unity Platfrom (NUP), Henry Lubowa of the Democratic Front (DF), Musoke Hamis Walusimbi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Ida Buggaga Matovu of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and independent candidates Florence Kintu, Mutebi Ramathan and Kayaga Juliet; all of whom are seeking to unseat outgoing MP Nsereko Musoke Wakayima who has represented the constituency since 2016.
With just months to the elections, the Nansana Municipality parliamentary seat is poised to become one of the most closely watched contests of the 2026 polls.
