Strong Turnout at Busia Rally Signals Confidence in Museveni, says NRM’s Nekesa

The NRM National Treasurer Barbara Nekesa Oundo has described Saturday’s massive turnout at President Museveni’s rally in Busia as one that reflects the public’s appreciation of the party’s achievements.

“In Busia, we have a lot to thank the NRM for—modern tarmac roads like Jinja–Bugiri–Busia, Musita–Namayingo–Majanji, and the new connection towards Tororo. We have the Majanji water project, a new modern market, and upgraded health units such as Masafu General Hospital and Ibuseme Health Centre IV,” she noted.

Nekesa was speaking to journalists shortly after the rally at Masafu primary school playgrounds on Saturday.

She said the crowd demonstrated that residents “understand and appreciate the message of protecting the gains.”

Nekesa predicted a strong performance for the party in the upcoming elections:

“Looking at the trajectory we are taking, we anticipate an 80 percent and above performance for the NRM in the 2026 elections,” she said, adding that mobilisation would continue intensively for both President Museveni and all NRM flag bearers.

She said during the rally, the President had offered timely clarity on what the party’s grassroots structures must prioritise as they hunt for votes.

“We thank President Museveni for successfully winding up his campaign tour in Bukedi. His guidance has helped our teams on the ground understand what to say and where to concentrate their mobilisation,” she said.

According to Nekesa, the President reminded NRM leaders to emphasise the three pillars that have defined the party’s governance record—peace and stability, socio-economic infrastructure, and wealth creation.

“The first thing we must remind our people is that the NRM restored peace and stability. Since 1986, Uganda has enjoyed security. Secondly, the NRM has built the enablers—the infrastructure—that drives wealth creation. And through wealth creation, we create jobs for Ugandans,” she said.

Nekesa urged NRM structures to take the President’s message “from the horse’s mouth” to every village, explaining that continuity is necessary to consolidate gains and close remaining gaps.

“If we follow the message of the NRM, we shall not only develop Busia and Bukedi but Uganda at large,” she added.
