The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) cemented its standing as a digital leader, winning the highly coveted Utilities and Government Services Digital Excellence Award at the 12th annual Digital Impact Awards Africa on Friday, November 14, 2025.
The award recognizes NWSC’s consistent and innovative use of digital platforms to enhance customer service, streamline operations, and drive inclusion across Uganda.
The corporation’s digital systems, including the NWSC Digital Self Service Portal and mobile app, allow customers to skip physical queues, access account information, pay bills, and monitor usage 24/7.
NWSC has also embraced multiple payment options, including mobile money and bank apps, while transitioning to e-bills to increase transparency and reduce paper consumption.
The digital shift has been credited with improving efficiency, reducing operational costs, and expanding access to water services, particularly in urban areas such as Kampala, Entebbe, Jinja, and Gulu.
Established in 1972, NWSC is a government-owned utility responsible for the provision of clean water and sanitation services to over 10 million Ugandans across more than 200 urban centre.
The corporation has consistently prioritized innovation, adopting digital tools not only for customer convenience but also for internal operations such as meter reading, leak detection, and network management.
The Digital Impact Awards Africa, now in its 12th year, celebrate organizations that demonstrate excellence in digital transformation, highlighting the use of technology to improve service delivery, operational efficiency, and citizen engagement.
“This award is a recognition of NWSC’s commitment to leveraging technology to make water and sanitation services more accessible, transparent, and user-friendly for every Ugandan,” said the corporation’s spokesperson.
“We continue to innovate and scale our digital services to meet the growing needs of our customers and ensure that no one is left behind.”
NWSC’s digital initiatives complement its broader mission of expanding clean water access, promoting hygiene, and supporting Uganda’s sustainable development goals, making it a model for utilities across the region.
