The Commissioner General of Prisons, Can. Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, has emphasised the importance of patriotism and loyalty to the nation as guiding principles for all officers in the Uganda Prisons Service.
Dr. Byabashaija made the call during a meeting with officers, where he highlighted the Service's efforts to boost productivity through prison farms and industries, infrastructural development, enhance staff and inmate welfare, and promote the Service's contribution to Uganda's socio-economic transformation.
"As officers, we must be guided by patriotism and loyalty to our nation," Dr. Byabashaija said. "These values are essential in our efforts to provide safe and humane custody, rehabilitation, and reintegration of offenders into society."
The Commissioner General also highlighted the progress made in implementing the Service's strategic plan, including the expansion of prison farms and industries, and the construction of new facilities to improve staff and inmate welfare.
"Our prison farms and industries are key to boosting productivity and improving the well-being of our staff and inmates," he said.
"We are also committed to enhancing staff welfare, and the Prisons SACCO and Duty-Free Shop are some of the initiatives we have put in place to support our officers."
Dr. Byabashaija also emphasised the importance of promoting the Service's contribution to Uganda's socio-economic transformation, highlighting the role of the Prisons Service in supporting national development initiatives.
"We are committed to playing our part in Uganda's socio-economic transformation," he said. "We will continue to work towards providing safe and humane custody, rehabilitation, and reintegration of offenders, and supporting national development initiatives."
The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Uganda Prisons Service, who pledged to uphold the values of patriotism and loyalty, and to continue working towards excellence in service delivery.
