Leaders of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Kawempe Division have pledged to ensure a peaceful and orderly campaign period during the ongoing by-elections, assuring both the public and the party leadership that there will be no chaos or violence in the area.

The commitment was made during a high-level engagement held in Kampala, led by the NRM Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja Nsereko and State House Controller Jane Barekye, as part of President Yoweri Museveni’s ongoing house-to-house mobilisation campaign across the city. The meeting brought together more than 30,000 party leaders from the five divisions of Kampala.

Namayanja commended the Kawempe leadership for their renewed commitment to peace and unity, noting that the NRM would not condone any acts of indiscipline or violence during the campaign and election period.

“The NRM does not tolerate any form of chaos or disorder. Anyone who attempts to destabilise peace in our communities will face serious consequences,” Namayanja warned.

Kawempe Division has in the past been associated with election-related disturbances, including the Kawempe North by-election where journalists and voters were reportedly attacked. Namayanja emphasised that such incidents should not be repeated, urging leaders to work as a team to project the NRM’s message of stability and development.

During the meeting, Deputy RDC Luke Kagenyi and other division leaders reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a peaceful campaign atmosphere.

They also appealed for more support from the party and government towards community empowerment projects, arguing that improving livelihoods at the household level would strengthen mobilisation for President Museveni’s re-election bid.

Namayanja further called for internal harmony within the party, advising members to put aside personal differences and avoid undermining fellow NRM flag bearers.

“Let us not allow intrigue, jealousy, or resentment to divide us. Our focus should be on the common goal  victory for the NRM and continued development for our people,” she urged.

She expressed optimism that the party’s strong grassroots networks would deliver solid results in the coming election, describing the ongoing mobilisation as unique because it is being led directly by party members and local structures.

In her remarks, State House Comptroller Jane Barekye encouraged leaders to actively participate in government initiatives aimed at poverty reduction.

She highlighted President Museveni’s continued commitment to empowering ordinary citizens through programs that enhance productivity and income generation.

“The President’s message is clear  every household should engage in productive work to eliminate poverty. As NRM leaders, we must take this message door-to-door and ensure our people benefit from government programs,” Barekye said.

The meeting ended with a renewed pledge from Kawempe’s NRM leadership to maintain unity, discipline, and peace as campaigns intensify ahead of the upcoming elections.
