KCB Bank, AFRIpads Uganda Launch Reusable Pad Drive to Champion Menstrual Health in Jinja

KCB Bank Uganda, in partnership with AFRIpads Uganda Ltd., has successfully launched a donation drive distributing reusable sanitary pads to schoolgirls across several institutions, including Jinja Progressive Secondary School, Nile Vocational Institute, Najja St. Mary’s High School, Kyaggwe, and Ursula Special School.

The initiative forms part of a broader campaign aimed at empowering vulnerable girls throughout Uganda.

The programme focuses on supporting the education and well-being of young women by addressing period poverty and promoting sustainable menstrual hygiene management.

By ensuring access to essential menstrual products, the initiative helps reduce period-related absenteeism and reinforces KCB Bank’s commitment to keeping girls in school.

At Ursula Special School, the donation was customised to meet the hygiene needs of children with special needs, underscoring the bank’s belief that menstrual dignity is a fundamental right for every girl, regardless of ability or circumstance.

Speaking during one of the handovers, Kibuuka Stephen, Business Development Manager at the KCB Foundation, reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to community welfare.

“At KCB Bank, as part of our promise For People, For Better, we believe that investing in a girl’s education and dignity has a profound impact on her life and her community,” Kibuuka said.

“Period poverty remains a significant barrier to education for many girls in Uganda. By partnering with AFRIpads, an organisation that produces high-quality, sustainable solutions locally, we are providing a practical tool for menstrual management and directly investing in a brighter, more fulfilling future for these young women.”

AFRIpads Uganda Ltd. echoed the importance of access to sustainable menstrual products. Irene Kemigisa, a trainer with AFRIpads, highlighted the long-term value of the reusable pads.

“The reusable pad you have received is designed for durability and comfort, ensuring girls can manage their periods with dignity and confidence for several years,” she said.

“Our collaboration with KCB Bank is vital in scaling up this impact. When girls have reliable access to hygienic products, their concentration and participation in school significantly improve. We are proud to contribute to an effort that champions health, dignity, and educational equality.”

The initiative also included an educational session on menstrual hygiene management, equipping the girls with essential knowledge on the proper use and care of the reusable pads.
