The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abas Byakagaga, led a team of senior police officials on Thursday to Bundibugyo district for a security assessment aimed at evaluating the current situation and identifying areas for improvement.
Eyewitnesses reported that the IGP, accompanied by several directors, arrived in the district this afternoon and immediately conducted on-the-spot assessments of key security areas.
“I am here to get a firsthand understanding of the security situation on the ground,” the IGP said. “We are reviewing our deployments, threat levels, and coordination mechanisms to ensure that our response is swift and effective.”
The assessment focused on border security, community policing effectiveness, intelligence coordination, and rapid response capabilities. The IGP also reviewed the readiness of territorial and specialised police units operating in the region.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens,” he emphasised. “We will continue to work tirelessly to identify and address security gaps and to build trust with the communities we serve.”
The visit forms part of the police’s ongoing efforts to enhance security in Bundibugyo, particularly in border areas, and is expected to lead to strengthened measures and improved response to emerging threats.
