President Museveni has sworn-in newly-appointed top judicial officers and the Ombudsman in a ceremony held at his ongoing campaign trail in Bugisu sub-region.
The officials sworn-in from Mbale are Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala as the new Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo as Principal Judge, and Mr Lino Anguzu as the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Inspectors General of Government Dr. Okiria and Anne Twino, who were both reappointed to their positions.
President Museveni praised Justice Naluzze’s appointment, saying she brings a “strong judicial perspective” to the Inspectorate’s oversight and accountability functions.
Justice Naluzze, a seasoned lawyer and former High Court judge, pledged to take a firm stance against corruption.
“I will work tirelessly to ensure that the Inspectorate of Government is effective in fighting corruption and promoting good governance,” she said.
Justice Abodo, who previously served as Director of Public Prosecutions, now assumes the role of Principal Judge, while Mr Anguzu takes over her former position as DPP.
Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi welcomed the new IGG’s appointment, describing her as “more qualified than her predecessor” and expressing optimism that she would “make a positive impact in the fight against corruption.”
