The fourth Uganda–Kenya Coast Tourism Conference  and Exhibition  has kicked off at the Ocean Beach Resort and Spa in Malindi under the theme “Leveraging Youth, Innovation, and Technology for Responsive and Inclusive Tourism.”

The conference brings together key stakeholders from the tourism industry to explore new opportunities and strategies for growth.

The event features discussions on digital solutions, youth-driven innovation, and sustainable tourism practices, with more than 750 delegates expected to attend.

It serves as a vital platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and business collaboration within the regional tourism sector.

In his opening remarks, Uganda’s Consul General, Ambassador Paul Mukumbya, emphasized the importance of collaboration between Uganda and Kenya.

“We’re not competing; we’re complementing each other’s strengths,” he said. “Kenya has its beautiful beaches, while Uganda boasts silverback gorillas. Let’s market our unique attractions together and create a richer tourism experience for visitors.”

Ambassador Mukumbya highlighted the vast potential within the tourism industry, referencing opportunities in business summits for adventure and business tourism, familiarization trips for experiential travel showcasing local agriculture and cuisine, cultural exchanges for skills transfer, sports tourism for adventure sports and events, technology and innovation for digital solutions and creative products, and enhanced support for the private sector through public–private partnerships.

The Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, who served as the Chief Guest, welcomed the Ugandan delegation to the Coast and underscored the critical role of youth in shaping the future of tourism.

The Governor of Kilifi County also addressed the conference, reaffirming his commitment to youth empowerment and innovation within the tourism space.
