Laropi Ferry to Halt Operations for Maintenance in November
The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced that MV Laropi, which links Moyo and Adjumani Districts, will suspend services for scheduled maintenance between November 10 and 28, 2025.

The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced a temporary suspension of operations for the MV Laropi Ferry, which connects Moyo and Adjumani Districts via the Laropi–Umi route, to allow for scheduled maintenance.

In an October 22 notice, the ministry said the ferry services will be halted from November 10 to November 28, 2025.

The ministry’s technical team will undertake critical maintenance aimed at improving the reliability and safety of the vessel.

Officials said this is a stop-gap measure ahead of a planned comprehensive repair and rehabilitation of the MV Laropi Ferry.

During the closure, travellers are advised to use alternative road routes, including Kampala–Moyo–Yumbe–Koboko–Arua–Karuma–Gulu–Atiak–Adjumani, or the Kampala–Moyo–Obongi District–MV Obongi Ferry–Adjumani route.

In a formal communication to the Chief Administrative Officer of Moyo District, Permanent Secretary Bageya Waiswa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining safe and reliable transport infrastructure.
