Police in Masindi are investigating circumstances under which a mother identified as Evelyn Akello burnt her own child with charcoal on the mouth aged nine Akao Mefia accusing her of stealing ground nuts that is said to have been belonging to a neighbor.
According to police, the incident happened in Tantara village Kyakamese parish in Pakanyi sub county Masindi district.
Julius Hakiza the Albertine South police spokesperson, but who is also acting as the spokesperson for Albertine North confirmed the incident noting that the case was reported at 3am and Investigations have since commenced.
"The victim has already gotten medication, while the suspect has already been arrested and detained" Hakiza confirmed
Hakiza however challenges the general public especially parents to prioritise the lives and safety of their children calling for safer environment for children at home and free from any form of abuse.
