The Diocese of Tororo is in deep mourning following the return of the body of its former Auxiliary Bishop, Charles Martin Wamika, to Uganda Martyrs Cathedral, Nyangole–Tororo, on Friday evening, October 25, 2025.
The late Bishop, who served the Tororo faithful for over two decades, is remembered for his unwavering faith, radiant joy, and dedicated service to the Church.
A solemn reception was led by Archbishop Emmanuel Obbo, who sprinkled holy water on the casket before leading a series of sacred rituals.
The Archbishop draped a pall over the casket and placed a crucifix, chalice, Gospel book, and stole—symbols of priestly ministry—atop it.
In his message, Archbishop Obbo thanked the Diocese of Jinja for returning Bishop Wamika’s remains to Tororo, describing him as “a son of this soil whose legacy of faith and joy will never fade.”
He urged mourners to remain prayerful, saying, “We must not weep as if we lack faith. Through our prayers, Bishop Wamika remains alive in God’s embrace.”
Throughout the night, priests who had served alongside the late Bishop led Masses in his honor.
A Requiem Mass will be held this morning in Tororo, after which the body will be taken to his home parish in Budaka, then to Iganga. The final burial will take place in Jinja on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, led by Archbishop Obbo.
