Kenzo dismisses 'online propaganda' amid UNMF transparency concerns

Singer and president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), Edrisah Musuuza, alias Kenzo, has spoken out against what he describes as online campaigns aimed at dividing the Federation.

For several weeks, Kenzo and the UNMF have faced public scrutiny on social media over alleged accountability issues surrounding the Federation’s Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisation (SACCO).

Worth noting is that the government has so far allocated Shs5 billion to support the welfare of musicians through this initiative.

Some social media users have claimed that certain artists have not benefited from the funds, while others have questioned why the money was allegedly sent to Kenzo’s personal account instead of the Federation’s official account.

Reports also indicate that while the Federation had lobbied for an additional Shs5 billion, the release of the funds, allegedly ordered by Gen. Salim Saleh, was intercepted by the Ministry of Finance.

The controversy has sparked online campaigns demanding accountability and transparency within the Federation’s leadership.

However, in a statement shared on his social media platforms, Kenzo dismissed the claims as deliberate propaganda meant to cause division among musicians.

“There have been online campaigns and propaganda aimed at sowing doubt and discord about our unity. Let’s respond with clarity, calm, and confidence,” he said.

Kenzo emphasised that this was not the first attempt to weaken the Federation’s unity.

“History shows that attempts to fracture our unity have consistently failed when we stand together with truth and purpose,” he noted.

He reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to transparency and accountability, saying both UNMF and its SACCO are responsible to their members and relevant authorities.

“We have and will continue to uphold these duties with transparency and integrity,” Kenzo stated.

He also stressed that privacy remains a key value for the Federation, especially when dealing with musicians and creatives.

“We are committed to protecting the privacy of every member. Personal information, creative work, and communications are handled with discretion and in line with our privacy standards. We will not compromise on privacy, even in the face of intimidation or propaganda,” he added.

Kenzo called for unity and resilience among Federation members, urging them to stay focused on their shared goals.

“Our strength lies in togetherness, disciplined action, and a shared commitment to the welfare of our members and communities. We do not waver in the face of negative campaigns,” he said.

“Our long-term commitment remains: unity, advocacy, financial empowerment, mutual aid, and responsible stewardship. The cause that unites us- Together for the Music, remains unwavering and will prevail over intrigue, malice, and propaganda,” he stated.

Kenzo urged members to stay informed, engage constructively, support one another, and report any concerns.

“We appreciate your trust and resilience. UNMF and our SACCO are here, now and going forward. Our togetherness and shared mission will outlast attempts to derail us,” he said.
