The People’s Freedom Front has officially launched in Buikwe District, with party president Erias Lukwago calling on voters to elect principled leaders and avoid disunity and corrupt candidates ahead of the 2026 elections.

The People’s Freedom Front (PFF), a rising political force in Uganda, officially launched its operations in Buikwe District with a strong call for voters to remain focused amid what it called “political storms” aimed at sidelining well-prepared and principled leaders.

The launch, held at Ziba Village in Ngogwe Sub-county, was presided over by PFF party president Erias Lukwago, who, together with other senior party officials, unveiled the party’s district flag bearers.

The event began with a solemn mass led by Fr. John Masaba, who called for unity among opposition leaders.

He warned that internal fights would only weaken the opposition’s cause and damage the credibility of good leaders.

“This is a critical time for the country,” Fr. Masaba said. “Opposition leaders must not fight each other but instead stand united. Disunity will only lead to the destruction of what is good and necessary for change.”

PFF Secretary General Ibrahim Semujju used the occasion to inaugurate over 50 candidates who will contest various elective positions across Buikwe District in the upcoming general elections.

He emphasized the need to elect leaders who understand the community’s needs, rather than basing support on superficial popularity or emotional gestures.

“We must learn to respect Buikwe by voting for the sons and daughters of this soil,” Semujju said. “Let us stop voting for people simply because they attend funeral services.”

Buikwe South Member of Parliament, Dr Lulume Bayigga, who was present at the launch, acknowledged that PFF is still building its support base in the district.

However, he expressed confidence in the party’s structure, saying it is well-prepared to win a majority of seats in the next election cycle.

In his keynote address, Erias Lukwago reiterated the party’s commitment to peaceful, values-driven political change and cautioned against violence and political infighting.

“In the fight for change, I see no justification for conflict,” Lukwago said. “Let us lay down our swords and pick up integrity, courage, and the determination to build a better future.”

Lukwago challenged the electorate to vote for honest, principled leaders who cannot be bought and who will protect national assets from corrupt dealings.

He further noted that he is aware of certain individuals vying to unseat Dr Bayigga, who allegedly have cases to answer regarding the illegal sale of public land in Buikwe.

He cautioned voters against trusting such individuals with critical positions like Parliament.

“We need leaders who can stand firm, not those who have sold off public land and now want to hide behind political campaigns,” Lukwago said.
