Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nandala Mafabi has pledged to protect Karamoja’s mineral resources and ensure that the wealth generated from the region directly benefits its people if elected president.

Mafabi made the remarks during his campaign rallies in Nakapiripirit and Moroto Town, where he also promised to prioritize quality education, food security, youth employment, and the revival of the cattle economy

“Karamoja’s minerals must benefit the people of Karamoja, not outsiders. We shall ensure transparency and accountability in mineral management,” Mafabi said, drawing applause from supporters.

The opposition candidate criticised the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government for what he described as years of neglect and underdevelopment in Karamoja, saying the region continues to suffer from poverty, poor infrastructure, and unemployment despite its vast natural wealth.

> “For over three decades, this government has made promises but delivered little. Karamoja remains poor, yet it is rich in minerals and hardworking people,” Mafabi said.

While in Moroto, Mafabi’s campaign team was briefly involved in running battles with police, who blocked them from accessing parts of Moroto Town. Despite the disruption, his supporters gathered along the streets to listen to his message of change.

After his rallies in Nakapiripirit and Moroto, Mafabi announced that his campaign trail would continue to North Karamoja, covering Kotido, Kaabong, and Abim districts in the coming days.

The FDC leader urged residents to abandon the ruling NRM and rally behind his party, promising to transform Karamoja’s social and economic fortunes through inclusive leadership and equitable resource distribution
