After officially declaring her intention to contest without a political party affiliation, Mityana District Woman Member of Parliament Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa has confirmed that she will be nominated on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, as an independent candidate.
Bagala, who has been serving under the National Unity Platform (NUP), said her decision followed careful reflection on the needs and voices of the people of Mityana, noting that her commitment remains firmly rooted in addressing their everyday challenges.
“The people of Mityana know the issues that affect them best,” Bagala said. “I have been working hard to tackle some of these problems, but there is still much more to be done and I am ready to continue focusing on what truly matters to our communities.”
She emphasised that her next term’s priorities will center on improving education, supporting farmers, enhancing health services, and empowering women and youth sectors she believes are critical to the district’s progress.
“This is not about party politics anymore,” she added. “It’s about service delivery and ensuring that Mityana gets the attention and development it deserves.”
Bagala’s announcement has stirred excitement among her supporters, many of whom say her independent move demonstrates courage and genuine commitment to her people.
Her nomination on October 22 will mark the beginning of what is expected to be a highly competitive race for the Mityana Woman MP seat ahead of the 2026 general elections, as several candidates from different political parties are also eyeing the position.
