The ruling National Resistance Movement(NRM) has said the comments by National Unity Platform presidential candidates Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine on the Parish Development Model will boomerang for him.
“The voters are going to answer him on the day of elections. Because how do you scrap livelihood? Members of Parliament are struggling for PDM in Parliament. Then you want to remove PDM for the peasants. How will you transform the country,” NRM director for information and publicity, Emmanuel Dombo said on Monday.
He was responding to questions from journalists about comments by Kyagulanyi during one of his campaign rallies.
During his campaign rallies in Luuka and Kaliro and Busoga, Kyagulanyi said Ugandans don’t need Parish Development Model cash which he described as handouts.
“A country doesn’t develop by simply giving handouts to everyone. We are going to abolish that program and half of that money will be invested in improving our education system,” he said.
Speaking on Monday, the NRM director for information scoffed at Kyagulanyi over his remarks but said it will be a recipe for disaster for the NUP presidential candidate.
“So whoever wants to try to abolish PDM, the voters are going to abolish them themselves. The voters will abolish those politicians so that they leave the politician(Museveni) who brings PDM.”
President Museveni has throughout his campaign speeches emphasised that PDM is the vehicle to ensure all Ugandans create wealth.
He insists that whereas the shs1 million seems little, it many Ugandans, it is enough to change their lives if used well, noting that starting small and later growing big is key.
Museveni campaigns
Maj(rtd) Pollar Awich, the NRM Director of External Affairs said the campaigns for President Museveni have so far moved well, with Lango almost covered.
“The morale of the people and what you can see is that the region has lots of support for the president and it is manifested in the turn up,” Awich said.
“The other thing to note is that we have not had any incident of embarrassment, for example incident where you organise and there's a contrary organisation. Everything has been harmonious and smooth. Areas where we had other parties attending, those parties dressed in their colour just to say we belong to this party, but we are here to support Museveni and they came.”
He called for a massive turnup of NRM supporters for Museveni’s rally in Oyam on Tuesday.
