Mubende District local radio station, Point FM, has been taken off air
The shutdown comes ahead of presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi’s scheduled rally in Mubende District on October 7, with reports indicating that broadcasting equipment, including two consoles, was confiscated, leaving the station off air.
Officials apparently from the Uganda Communications Commission, accompanied by security personnel, raided Point FM, which broadcasts on the frequency 105.1, and forcibly switched off transmissions.
The station is owned by Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo.
Presenters at the station reported that two broadcasting consoles, along with other equipment, were confiscated during the raid, effectively taking the radio station off air.
The action comes amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2026 general elections and follows recent tensions surrounding rallies and campaign coverage by local media.
