Minister Kabuye Kyofatogabye.

The State  Minister for Kampala, Kabuye Kyofatogabye, who is also the NRM flag bearer for Nakaseke central has said the success of the Parish Development Model program  is going to propel the ruling party’s support in the Greater Luweero area.

Speaking ahead of President Museveni’s rally at Bukalasa Agricultural College grounds in Wobulenzi Town Council, Luweero district, Kyofatogabye said PDM has been a success in the area.

“When PDM came, it has done us wonders. In the entire Greater Luwero, we have received shs74 billion and that translates to 74,000 households,” Kyofatogabye told the Nile Post in an interview on Tuesday.

He said at least 31,000 households in Luweero, 23,000 in Nakaseke and

31,000 in Nakasongola districts have so far benefitted from the Parish Development Model.

“So everybody has got PDM money, and indeed, those households which got the support have done us wonders. They have changed.”

The minister mentioned President Museveni’s recent PDM visit to the area which he said showed stellar results for the area, also  known as the Mecca for NRM.

“When the president was moving around, people could confess and  you could really see that this is natural, it's not cosmetic, it's not created. People really accepted the fact that yes,  something special has been done.”

He said the last five years, the people of Greater Luweero suffered with bad leadership as most seats were taken by opposition National Unity Platform.

Kyofatogabye was however quick to point out that the population has “realised its mistake.”

“In the last five years we have been concentrating on mobilising people and  putting in place  the legitimate interests of the people which are  socio-economic transformation programs and have led to economic empowerment.”

“When I meet them these days, they tell me, they were just annoyed.  You ask them why, and  they don't have a reason. Now they are coming back home.  So most of them are now saying they are coming back and supporting their grandfather.”

Health, Education

The minister also mentioned gains in education and health sectors in the three districts of Greater Luweero area.

He said the area now has 1,474 schools, both primary and secondary, coming from 57 before NRM came to power.

“Then the hospital, we had only Nakaseke General Hospital which was constructed in the 1960s.  Now we have a new hospital which is being finalised by UPDF here, Kasana Hospital. By and large, there's a lot of changes that have occurred.
