The National Unity Platform (NUP) chapter in Lubaga South has unveiled a Presidential Medical Brigade to provide immediate medical assistance to supporters during campaign events for presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.
The initiative comes ahead of Kyagulanyi’s official nomination tomorrow.
The brigade was launched in response to previous incidents where NUP supporters reportedly faced delays in accessing medical care after injuries sustained during political engagements.
Some supporters, according to party reports, even succumbed to their injuries due to delays in treatment.
Mugga Adam Swift, a NUP aspirant for Lubaga South, emphasized the importance of the brigade.
“Our loyal supporters, who bravely stand with our cause, have often faced challenges when injured.
Some were stranded, waiting for ambulances, and tragically, some passed away before receiving care. This is unacceptable and motivated us to take decisive action,” Swift said.
The Presidential Medical Brigade will comprise trained medical personnel and a fleet of ambulances to deliver prompt care directly to supporters across the country.
Swift also pledged Shs10 million towards its operationalization, covering medical supplies, logistics, and support for volunteer medical teams.
“The Shs10 million is just the beginning. Every life is precious, and we want to ensure our supporters receive the care they deserve. This is an investment in our people and in the success of our campaign,” Swift said.
The launch event, held at NUP headquarters in Makerere Kavule, saw the pledge formally received by the party’s chief mobilizer, Habib Buwembo, who described the initiative as “forward-thinking and compassionate,” reinforcing NUP’s people-centered approach.
Swift also urged supporters to remain disciplined during campaign activities and to respect security forces, emphasizing that peaceful and organized conduct would strengthen the party’s credibility.
The timing of the medical brigade’s launch underscores the party’s focus on preparation ahead of Kyagulanyi’s nomination, as the NUP works to ensure both safety and morale of its supporters during nationwide campaign activities.
Party officials describe the initiative as a key component of their campaign strategy, signaling the NUP’s commitment to grassroots welfare and organized political engagement.
