Nzaire Withdraws From NRM CEC Race

By | August 22, 2025

In a move aimed at fostering unity and cohesion within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Nowomugisha Sedrack Nzaire has announced his withdrawal from the race for NRM National Vice Chairperson – Western Uganda, underscoring the importance of collective progress over personal ambition.

The decision, revealed in an official statement on August 21, 2025, followed extensive consultations with the NRM’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), chaired by President Museveni.

A steadfast NRM cadre, Nzaire cited party cohesion and harmonization as the primary reason for stepping aside.

The race for the influential position had attracted notable contenders, including Chris Baryomunsi, Minister for ICT and National Guidance, and Braise Kamugisha, among others, each bringing significant experience and dedication to the Party’s vision.

By withdrawing, Nzaire aims to strengthen Party unity as it prepares to advance Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.

In his statement, Nzaire emphasized the need to place collective good above personal ambition.

“As a loyal cadre of the NRM, I firmly believe that personal ambition must always give way to the collective good of the Party and the Country,” he said.

“It is in this spirit that I have taken this step, confident that it best serves the stability and cohesion of our Party.”

The announcement comes at a pivotal time for the NRM, which has driven Uganda’s development agenda since 1986.

The National Vice Chairperson – Western Uganda represents a key region in the Party’s strongholds and requires leadership that bridges grassroots aspirations with national objectives.

Nzaire’s withdrawal is viewed as a strategic decision to streamline the Party’s leadership selection process and maintain focus on broader national goals.

Expressing gratitude to President Museveni and the CEC for their guidance, Nzaire also thanked supporters across Western Uganda for their unwavering encouragement.

“Your belief in me fuels my resolve to continue serving our Party and nation in other capacities,” he noted, while extending best wishes to the remaining candidates and urging them to uphold the NRM’s values of integrity and service.

Political analysts see Nzaire’s decision as evidence of the NRM’s internal mechanisms for fostering unity and resolving competition amicably.
