KCCA Caf Champions League group opponents Ahly, Esperance storm finals

Despite their early exit, Ugandan representatives KCCA FC will have something to boast about in this year’s CAF Champions League after former group –mates reached African’s most coveted club tournament’s finals.

KCCA bowed out of group A after finishing third with six points at the expense of Egyptian and Tunisian giants Al Ahly and Esperance respectively who topped the group.

The two North African giants would progress through the ranks until they on Tuesday stormed the finals of the continent’s most coveted club championship.

Despite losing 2-1 in their semi- final game with Entente Setif from Algeria, Al Ahly progressed to the finals on a 3-2 aggregate, having won the first game two nil in the first encounter in Cairo, three weeks ago.

On the other side, Tunisian giants Esperance Sportive de Tunis advanced to this year’s Caf Champions League finals after beating Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto 4-2 to progress on a 4-3 aggregate after losing the first leg game in Luanda by a goal to nil.

The record eight time African champions, Ahly will host the first game of the two leg final on November 2 and the return leg will be held a week later as the two giants battle for not only pride but also   $2.5 million as prize money for the winner.

Esperance will now be looking at avenging their defeat to Al Ahly in the 2012 Caf Champions League finals as they try seek to represent Africa at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in December.
