Police to impound boda bodas with flood lights

Following public outcry, Police has warned boda boda riders against re-enforcing their lights with flood lights blinding other road users especially at night.

Police is to begin impounding boda bodas that sport these reinforced flood lights.

Boda boda riders, however, feel  the enforcement is selective since they are also victims of motorists

An evening on a Ugandan road is a competition about who flashes the brighest lights. In the past motorists were often accused of using overwhelming lights on their vehicles. Commercial motorcyclists seem to have copied the trend too outfitting their motorcycles with reinforced flood lights.

Traffic police spokesperson Charles Ssebambulidde says the police will now impound motorcycles with these offensive lights.

But boda boda riders argue the police is applying justice selectively.

Police are unapologetic and say they are going to crack down more on boda bodas who ignore many traffic rules.

Ssebambulidde says police will apprehend riders who ride on the pillons of their motorcycles, ride without helmets or ride on pavements.
