National Unity Platform (NUP) chief mobilizer, Habib Buwembo, has called on NUP members currently incarcerated in various prisons to use their time behind bars to spread the message of political change among fellow inmates.
Speaking at Masaka government prison during a visit to Eddie Ssebuufu, popularly known as Eddie Mutwe, and his co-accused who are facing charges related to aggravated robbery and assault, Buwembo emphasized the importance of maintaining the spirit of struggle.
“Even though our comrades are facing different charges and have been thrown into the fire, they must stop lamenting and instead focus on spreading the gospel of transformation to fellow inmates,” said Buwembo, who heads the KKUNGA program under NUP.
He added, “That way, they will continue working towards realizing their dream of leading this nation into a better future.”
Buwembo also expressed concern over the failure to implement a court order directing that Eddie Mutwe be transferred to Luzira prison for medical treatment.
“Although court directed that Eddie Mutwe be taken to Luzira for treatment, this has not yet been done. However, we are encouraged by the news that court has set August 14 as the date to hear their bail application,” he said.
Buwembo was accompanied by other NUP members from Masaka City, who expressed fear and dismay over what they described as unlawful arrests and detentions of their colleagues. They called on those responsible for these actions to reconsider their approach and respect the rule of law.
