Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has signed a new partnership with the Electricity Access Scale-Up Project to accelerate electricity connections across the country.

Under the new system, the company has digitalized application procedures to make it easier and faster for customers to apply for electricity services.

“It is easy to apply and get the services,” said Mwesigwa Paul, the Managing Director of Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited.

With necessary logistics now secured, UEDCL says it is ready to deploy teams and begin work on the ground.

More than 400 people have already been employed to support the connection process, with a focus on efficiency and timely service delivery.

Mwesigwa revealed that under this arrangement, domestic customers will pay Shs23,600 for a new connection.

He encouraged all Ugandans to hire certified electricians for home wiring to ensure safety and compliance with national standards.

The company has set a target to complete all assigned work by next year.

Despite having been actively involved in electricity supply for less than 100 days, Mwesigwa said UEDCL has already made significant strides in improving access.

“This marks a step forward in our commitment to lighting up Uganda,” he said, expressing optimism that the project will make a lasting impact on communities across the country.
