Family, religious leaders, and political figures gathered in Degeya village, Lwengo District, to pay final respects to Sheikh Sulaiman Kasule Ndirangwa, whose death has left a deep void in Uganda’s Muslim community.

The late Sheikh Kasule Ndirangwa, former Supreme Mufti of Uganda, was laid to rest on Saturday afternoon at his ancestral home in Degeya village, Lwengo District.

His passing, announced late Friday night at the age of 62, sent shockwaves through the country, prompting an outpouring of grief and tributes from all walks of life.

The burial ceremony, held at 4pm, drew hundreds of mourners including religious leaders, politicians, and residents of Lwengo who remembered Ndirangwa as a man of unwavering faith, humility, and service.

“His death leaves a void that will be hard to fill,” said Badr Katana, a local community member.

“Sheikh Ndirangwa was not only a spiritual leader but also a father figure to many.”

Hajj Moses Kigongo, the NRM First Vice Chairperson, called on the Muslim community to uphold unity and peace in memory of the late Mufti.

“Our country’s leadership does not need divisive elements within the faith. Sheikh Ndirangwa taught us the importance of harmony,” Kigongo said.

“Let us honor his legacy by coming together as one.”

Buganda Kingdom’s representative, Dr Twaha Kawase, emphasized Ndirangwa’s broader impact as a respected national figure.

“He was a bridge-builder who worked tirelessly to promote peace and understanding,” Kawase said. “Preserving his memory means continuing the work he started.”

Members of Parliament and other dignitaries were also in attendance. Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko praised Ndirangwa’s integrity and inclusiveness.

“He has been a leader who genuinely cared for everyone, guided without discrimination, and respected all political beliefs without manipulation or undermining,” Nsereko said. “His teachings on tolerance and respect must live on.”

Ndirangwa’s family expressed gratitude for the support shown during his illness and after his passing.

“It was a challenging time for us, but we felt comforted by the prayers and solidarity,” said one of his children.

“Our father’s spirit remains alive in every heart he touched.”

As the sun set over Degeya, the solemn mood reflected both loss and gratitude.

Sheikh Sulaiman Kasule Ndirangwa was not only laid to rest but also celebrated as a man whose legacy of unity, service, and compassion will endure for generations.
