Uganda and China have pledged to deepen diplomatic and development cooperation ahead of the Third Horn of Africa Peace Conference, set to take place in Kampala in late July.
The commitment was made during a bilateral meeting held between Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Regional Affairs), John Mulimba, and Xue Bing, China’s Special Envoy for Horn of Africa Affairs.
The two officials discussed preparations for the upcoming peace conference, with both sides reaffirming their support for regional peace, political stability, and sustainable development.
Xue praised Uganda’s role in promoting regional peace and expressed confidence that the Kampala conference would produce practical outcomes for countries in the Horn of Africa.
He also highlighted the strong ties between Uganda and China.
Minister Mulimba welcomed China’s support for Uganda’s national development goals, especially in sectors such as the digital economy, agro-processing, infrastructure, and industrial manufacturing.
The talks also covered expansion of cooperation under the Beijing Implementation Framework, with both sides acknowledging Uganda’s increasing importance in China-Africa relations this year.
The two delegations exchanged views on regional security challenges and emphasized the need for inclusive dialogue and coordinated action against emerging threats.
