The National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Southern Africa Chapter, Isma Luzige, has called on party supporters—especially the youth—to actively participate in the upcoming NRM lower-level structural elections and party nominations set to begin early next week.
Speaking to journalists in Johannesburg, South Africa, Luzige emphasised the critical role young people must play in shaping the future of the ruling party.
“This is not just an election—it is a moment for the NRM youth to rise and lead the way in grassroots mobilisation,” Luzige said. “I urge all our supporters across Southern Africa and back home in Uganda to turn up in big numbers and embrace this democratic exercise.”
He further expressed satisfaction with the high number of young NRM supporters showing interest in various political positions within the party’s structures.
“Thousands have already expressed interest in contesting at different levels. This shows that our party is alive and well—it has gained serious momentum,” he noted.
However, Luzige was quick to warn against violence or any acts of sabotage during the nomination and election period. He specifically called upon the youth and special interest groups to exercise maturity and discipline.
“Let us not be tempted by agents of confusion. The strength of NRM lies in peaceful transition and structured dialogue,” he stated. “Desist from violence at all costs. Let us show the country and the world that we can lead by example.”
The elections are expected to set the tone for the party's 2026 general election preparations. Lower-level structures form the backbone of the NRM's grassroots machinery, and observers say these polls will be a key test of the party’s internal democracy and unity.
Luzige also lauded the NRM Secretariat for organising the process in a transparent manner and encouraged party officials in the diaspora to remain mobilised and informed.
“As the Southern Africa Chapter, we are fully engaged and will continue to mobilise, sensitise, and inspire participation in these elections. Uganda needs all of us on board,” he concluded.
The NRM Southern Africa Chapter is an active diaspora branch that has consistently contributed to mobilisation efforts, fundraising, and policy advocacy for the ruling party outside Uganda.
