Busiro East Member of Parliament, Medard Lubega Sseggona, has today officially returned his expression of interest forms at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Makerere Kavule, affirming his bid to retain the party’s ticket ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Sseggona’s return comes amid weeks of public speculation and online chatter suggesting he had quietly distanced himself from the party. However, by physically appearing at the party’s offices and submitting his forms, he put those rumours to rest.
“NUP is my party. The rest is background noise,” Sseggona told journalists after handing in his forms.
A seasoned legislator and one of the prominent figures in the opposition party, Sseggona was met with applause and cheers from supporters who had gathered at the premises.
His reaffirmation of loyalty is likely to boost confidence among NUP faithful, especially at a time when internal unity is key.
NUP officials welcomed his move, hailing him as a respected legal mind and voice of reason within the party.
“Sseggona has always stood firm on principles. His return shows commitment to the struggle for change,” one of the party members remarked.
Sseggona, who has represented Busiro East in Parliament since 2011, will now join other incumbents and new entrants competing for the party’s endorsement.
With the nomination window closing on June 23, the race is intensifying, and Sseggona’s name adds further weight to the contest.
The NUP electoral process continues to attract significant public interest, and Sseggona’s return may signal that key political players are preparing to consolidate their positions ahead of what promises to be a high-stakes election season.
