Jinja District Chairman Moses Batwala has come out strongly to deny explosive social media claims that his wife, Namuganza Sanyu, mutilated his genitals over allegations of infidelity.
In a press address held at their home on Thursday, the couple described the viral story as “baseless, malicious and politically motivated.”
“We are overwhelmed by the endless calls we are receiving about this fake news,” Batwala said.
His wife Sanyu added, “I love my husband so much, and those are just propaganda.”
The denial follows a wave of online rumors that accused Sanyu of attacking her husband in a fit of rage over alleged womanizing.
However, Batwala insists the allegations are part of a smear campaign orchestrated by his political rivals ahead of the upcoming district elections.
“Those propagating this fake news have ill intentions. This is the work of competitors who fear my popularity,” he told journalists.
Sanyu also pushed back on the claims: “I can’t cut off my husband’s genitals. We have no misunderstandings at home.”
The story, which spread rapidly across social media platforms Thursday morning, has prompted calls for authorities to investigate the origin of the false report.
Supporters and commentators have warned that the fabrication not only damages reputations but also exposes the dangers of unchecked misinformation in the digital age.
The couple urged the public to disregard the rumours and focus on verifiable facts, as they reaffirmed their unity and commitment to one another.
Meanwhile, police have yet to comment on whether any investigation into the source of the claims is underway.
