Deputy Inspector General of Government (IGG) Dr. Patricia Achan recently shared a heartwarming experience that reminded her of the importance of creating joyful and safe spaces for children.
Dr. Achan had the opportunity to swing at an eco-playground launched at Kisima Junior School, an experience she hadn't had in over 20 years.
Dr. Achan reflected on the joy and freedom she felt while swinging, highlighting the significance of such experiences for children's development. "I hadn't been on a swing in over 20 years until 2 weeks ago at the launch of an eco-playground at Kisima Junior School," Dr. Achan said.
As Deputy IGG, Dr. Achan often emphasises the importance of integrity and accountability in governance. However, her experience at the playground made her realise that these values should be complemented by joyful and safe spaces for children.
"As Deputy IGG, I'm often talking about integrity and accountability… but that swing reminded me: the values we push for as a country should start at the grassroots with joyful, safe spaces for our children," Dr. Achan said.
Dr. Achan's statement underscores the importance of prioritising children's well-being and creating environments that promote their physical, emotional, and social development.
By investing in eco-playgrounds and other child-friendly initiatives, communities can help shape the next generation of citizens and leaders.
The Deputy IGG's reflection serves as a reminder of the need to balance the pursuit of integrity and accountability with the creation of joyful and safe spaces for children to grow and thrive.
