Moroto Parish Chief Dies in Motorcycle Crash

A parish chief for Tapac Sub County in Moroto has died and a security guard got critically injured following a head-on motorcycle collision.

The incident happened in Katanga, Moroto Municipality suburb, along the Moroto–Soroti road on the night of June 11th 2025.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 10:33 p.m. and involved two motorcycles.

The deceased, identified as Samuel Odett, a parish chief of Tapac, was riding a Yamaha motorcycle registration number LG0015/080.

He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The second rider, Bony Inyel, a security guard operating a Bajaj motorcycle registration number UFP 742N, remains in critical condition and is receiving medical attention.

Karamoja regional police spokesperson Mike Longole confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing. Preliminary findings point to reckless riding as a likely cause of the crash.

“We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and wish a quick recovery to the injured,” Longole said in a statement.

“We urge all road users to exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic incidents.”

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash .
