In a colourful handover ceremony attended by Bank of Uganda Governor Dr. Michael Ating-Ego, the Rotary Club of Muyenga ushered in Rotarian Alex B. Mugume as its 38th President, succeeding Edward Katimbo Mugwanya and vowing to steer the club towards unity, impact, and accountable service.

 

The Rotary Club of Muyenga has installed Rotarian Alex B. Mugume as its 38th President, taking over from Rotarian Edward Katimbo Mugwanya in a colourful ceremony marked by music, tradition, and pledges of continued service.

The event, held in Kampala, featured the symbolic raising of Rotary flags and trumpet salutes as Mugume received the chain of office and instruments of leadership from his predecessor, Katimbo Mugwanya, who received a warm ovation for his year of service.

The ceremony was graced by the Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Michael Atingi-Ego, who attended as Chief Guest.

In his remarks, Atingi-Ego called on Rotarians to ensure that their projects deliver sustainable impact through prudent and accountable use of resources.

“Rotary’s initiatives must deliver lasting impact through efficient and accountable resource use,” he said, urging members to deepen their contribution to socioeconomic transformation.

The Rotary Foundation recognised Atingi-Ego as a major donor in honour of his significant support towards the organisation’s global humanitarian work.

Rotarian Emmanuel Katongole, a distinguished member of the club and Rotary International District Nominee, delivered an address focused on peace-building.

He highlighted Rotary’s commitment to global peace and cited the Makerere University Peace Center as an example of Rotary’s investment in conflict resolution and leadership training.

“Creating peaceful environments and establishing peace centres worldwide is at the core of Rotary’s mission,” Katongole said, encouraging members to embrace unity and reconciliation in their communities.

In his inaugural speech, President Mugume expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him and outlined his vision for the year ahead under the Rotary International theme, Unite for Good.

“I am committed to advancing our club’s initiatives while fostering collaboration, transparency, and impact,” he said.

“We shall build on the legacy of those who came before us and position the club as a beacon of service and innovation.”

Outgoing President Katimbo Mugwanya reflected on his term with pride and thanked fellow Rotarians for their support.

“It has been an honour to lead this remarkable club. I am confident that President Mugume will elevate our legacy to new heights,” he said.

The installation of Rotarian Alex B. Mugume marks a new chapter for the Rotary Club of Muyenga, which continues to champion service, peace, and development in Uganda and beyond.
