3,100 Cows slaughtered for Vulnerable Communities as Uganda Red Cross Society,Turkish Red Crescent Mark Eid Al-Adha

The Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS), in partnership with the Turkish Red Crescent, today launched a large-scale humanitarian meat distribution initiative to commemorate Eid Al-Adha, the Islamic Festival of Sacrifice.

The initiative involves the slaughter and meat distribution of 3,100 cows to support vulnerable Muslim communities across Uganda.

The distribution that is happening in two key locations: Isingiro District in Western Uganda where 1,400 cows are being slaughtered and meat distributed to vulnerable families, including refugees and host communities.

The remaining 1,700 cows are being distributed to underserved households in Bugiri District Eastern Uganda.

Speaking to the Nile Post on Friday in Isingiro district, John Cliff Wamala, the Communication & Media Relations Officer at the Uganda Red Cross Society noted that the his initiative ensures that less privileged communities.

"Communities with refugees, widows, orphans, the elderly, and internally displaced persons, are able to partake in the joy and spiritual significance of the occasion. It brings out the essence of this significant day in the lives of the faithful " Wamala said.

“This initiative reaffirms the values of humanity and solidarity that define the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. We are deeply grateful to our partners at the Turkish Red Crescent for their unwavering generosity and continued support,” Wamala added.

All activities are being carried out in accordance with cultural, religious, and public health guidelines to uphold the dignity, safety, and respect of all beneficiaries.

The Uganda Red Cross Society remains committed to serving the most vulnerable and upholding human dignity, particularly during moments of religious and cultural importance.

Muslims at Ruhimbo mosque in Kabingo town council Isingiro district applauded red cross for the initiative highlighting the timely support given the challenging economic times.

"I have a neighbor who didn't know how his family will spend this Eid Al Adha and by now he has the picture of how they will spend the day" Ismael Mucunguzi a resident of Ruhimbo said.

Additionally speaking to the Nile post, Dr. Robert Nimwesiga, the Veterinary officer for Isingiro town council noted that all rge cows have been well inspected and examined to certify their slaughtering.

"We have throughly examined the health of all the cows and they all qualify for slaughter and distribution, we have ensured that every meat is stamped first before distribution " Dr.Nimwesiga said.

Western Uganda districts including Isingiro, Lyantonde, Sheema, Kiruhura, Rakai, Ntungamo, Ibanda and Mbarara district will benefit from this initiative for the next three days.
